Rocky Resort: Stunning Samui Setting Ideal For Rest, Relaxation
UPDATE : 5 February 2010
Located in a secluded cove at the southern end of Lamai Beach on Koh Samui (‘Samui Island’), Rocky Resort offers boutique luxury villa accommodation in a truly idyllic setting. Many visitors to Samui consider the beach to be among the most important factors during their stay, and the resort’s natural surroundings provide just the right kind of elegant and romantic feel. Something for everyone Samui is the country’s largest island and is as diverse as the people who visit the island every year from across the globe. Marketers sell Samui in a range of guises, such as ‘Temptation Island’, the kingdom’s premiere boutique and health resort, as a package-tour haven, or even as the ‘New Ibiza’. And the island is able to deliver in the main by managing to skillfully cater for all kinds of tastes and nationalities. So long as the climate is warm and mild, the beaches long and the beer cold, there’s certainly a great deal of pleasure to be found on Koh Samui. It was 2002 when I first visited Rocky Resort under somewhat different circumstances. My companion and I were looking to find a good value room that came within our relatively modest budget without resorting to a flophouse. Rocky Resort had just opened at that time and while its rates were already fairly modest, the Larsens, who run the resort, kindly agreed to giving us a cut price deal for a three night stay. I’ve always appreciated this opportunity, which provided surprisingly good value when you consider that the resort has its own stretch of private beachfront, as well as a private swimming pool overlooking the ocean. Easy access There are lots of transport options from the capital to Koh Samui, but by far the quickest and most convenient is to fly direct with Bangkok Airways (see 'Transport connections' [below] for further details). There are also plenty of ferries for those looking for an overland (and sea) experience. Koh Samui has certainly gained in prestige and gone up market over recent years, but that has also made it more competitive, so it’s easier than ever to secure luxurious accommodation by parting with just a little more cash. The bungalows and villas are well spaced from each other, providing guests with plenty of privacy. The resort has two large swimming pools – one along the beachfront, and the other up above in a lush garden area nearer to the main buildings. If you’re seeking beautiful, romantic accommodation in a breathtaking environment, Rocky Resort is ideal. Honeymooners and families will also feel right at home here, and I am always particularly taken with the service among Rocky Resort’s team of friendly staff, who are always totally professional, helpful and courteous. Wellness benefits While there are plenty of dining, shopping and entertainment opportunities, as well as more active pursuits, such as water sports, I generally relaxed during my two-night stay at the resort with a book by the nice clear swimming pool and recharged my batteries. What a nice, peaceful moment - at last! You may find, like me, that you could benefit from a massage session, and I would certainly recommend one here, since I felt completely reignited and rejuvenated by the experience. A basic massage at the resort costs 500 baht (US$15) per hour. For further information or to make a reservation, visit http://www.rockyresort.com. Transport connections: Rocky Resort is located at 438/1 Moo 1 in Koh Samui’s Tambon Maret. Koh Samui is within the province of Surat Thani. Air: Direct flights operate almost hourly from 7.30 am through to 7.20 pm. This route is exclusive to Bangkok Airways. Thai Airways flies to Surat Thani Airport. The overland (and sea) trip from Surat Thani Airport takes about three hours. Note: The photo used on the homepage comes courtesy of Rocky Resort. |
